WELCOME TO POST 10351 SABINE COUNTY POST

Teamwork ~ Leadership ~ Commitment
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's Veterans into our ranks to become part of our elite group, membership that you earned.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

"How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country.  This theme encourages students to reflect on and express their understanding of patriotism and its role in supporting the United States.

Key aspects of the theme:

Patriotism:
The theme focuses on the concept of patriotism and what it means to students.

Support for the Country:
It also prompts students to consider how they demonstrate their support for the United States.

Active Engagement:
The theme encourages students to think about their own actions and how they contribute to the well-being of the nation.

The VOD National first-place winner receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. Top Texas winner is $10,000 with 10-2d place receiving awards up to $5,000.  Plus, the Texas VFW will sponsor the first 10 winners and their families to our Awards Banquet in Corpus Christi, TX in January. Locally the competition is for all students, public, private, church or home schooled.  Deadline is Oct 31st for submission to VFW Post 10351.  The winner gets a $500 and advances to VFW District 19, where they will compete against 10 other Posts in District 19.  The winner in District 19 gets a $500 award and is forwarded to State, where they will compete against 23 other District winners.

Patriot Pen follows the same format, but only the 1st place winner and family gets a trip to Corpus Christi.

The winner of the Texas VOD is then sent (with family) to compete in Washington D.C. against the 52 other Departments in the VFW.

- October 31st we are holding Monster Mash in the evening at the VFW.  We are not competing with any other organization in Sabine County, but we are providing additional, safe, Halloween entertainment and goodies.

- Veterans Day, November 11th.  In the morning, we will be hosted by Hemphill ISD and in the afternoon, we will be hosted by the West Sabine ISD.  Both of those ISDs put out an excellent patriotic program for our Veterans.  Put it on your calendar.  Between the two events, we will host a free breakfast brunch for anyone who wants to come at the VFW Hall.  Chef Chris will do the cooking, and if you haven't had Chef Chris Bozant's cooking yet, you are missing out.

- Toys for Tots program, we will set out collection boxes throughout Sabine County for this event.  Any family with a child or children 12 or younger can leave their list for Santa.  Last year, we had an abundance of contributions.  Out of 33 tables that we have set up in our hall, 31 of them were filled with toys, not including the floor space for bicycles and larger toy items. (Two tables were used for reading Santa's list and filling Santa's bag.  Plus, we provide each of our law enforcement agencies in Sabine County with plush teddy bears to use in crisis events with small children, keeping those bears in their squad cars.

- Wreaths Across America, December 13th, we along with the American Legion, place wreaths on the graves of Veterans of Sabine County.  There are about 275 cemeteries listed in Sabine County, we will hold a special bingo in November to raise funds for the purchase of wreaths.  Right now we manage to have enough wreaths to place into about 6 cemeteries in Sabine County.  If you want to donate, or want to purchase a wreath for your Veteran, contact any VFW member.  Our email address is VFW10351Commander@outlook.comor our phone at the VFW is 409-787-3913.  We will also have information on our website at vfw10351.org.
